PlayStation has finally given a nod to Killzone after more than a decade, though not in the way fans had been eagerly anticipating.
The embargo on The Last of Us 2 Remastered has been lifted, unveiling a host of new in-game additions for the re-release, including bonus t-shirts and outfits for characters Ellie and Abby. A particular t-shirt for Ellie proudly showcases the Killzone logo, marking the first time in over ten years that the first-person shooter series has received any recognition from PlayStation. Since the launch of Killzone: Shadow Fall alongside the debut of the PS4 in late 2013, the series has been silent, with no signs or updates.
This unexpected acknowledgment, however, isn't exactly what fans of the shooter series had been hoping for, as indicated by the quote-tweet above. The Killzone logo on Ellie's t-shirt may be a surprise, but it leaves enthusiasts longing for more substantial developments in the beloved franchise.
"Been waiting since Twenty-Goddamn-Thirteen since Shadowfall for ANY Killzone news and this is what we get. I hate it here," said another Twitter user in response to Ellie's t-shirt. It appears that the Killzone fanbase had high hopes for more substantial news from Sony rather than just these breadcrumbs of acknowledgment.
"I feel genuinely sorry for Killzone fans. Sony has treated them very poorly for a long time," adds another Twitter user. Another user echoes these sentiments, saying, "Really want a Killzone remaster or something new from the franchise." These comments on Twitter reflect the disappointment and frustration among fans longing for significant updates on their beloved Killzone series.
Adding to the mix, there's also a Resistance t-shirt for Ellie in The Last of Us 2 Remastered, stirring up similar emotions among fans of Sony's long-lost series. "This is the closest we'll get to Resistance for PS4/PS5, and I really wish they gave more of their other titles and series a chance to be remastered," laments a Twitter user.
Presently, the outlook for the Killzone franchise doesn't seem positive, especially with the original developer, Guerrilla Games, heavily invested in expanding the Horizon series with new games and a spin-off. The future looks even bleaker for the Resistance series, which hasn't seen a main game launch since 2011. Fans of both series have been enduring a prolonged period of anticipation and uncertainty.
